Nintendo Power Volume 16—September/October 1990 is the sixteenth issue of Nintendo Power magazine, and the first standard issue to carry direct issue numbering (styled as "Volume X") - previously, standard issues were only dated, although "Strategy Guide" issues before this carried a dual "SGxx/NPxx" numbering. Standard issues continued to be released covering two-month periods of time until the end of 1990.

Player's Pulse (pp. 6-7)

In the Player's Pulse, there are images of some of the actual letters and envelopes that have been received. There is some fan artwork on the letters, including artwork of Link on one of the envelopes. There are also pictures sent in of players dressed up in Halloween costumes. One of the pictures is of Sean DeRemer, who is dressed up as Link.

Top 30 (pp. 22-24)

In this volumes Top 30, The Adventure of Link drops to the number 8 spot, while The Legend of Zelda drops out of the Top 10 for the first time ever, coming in at number 11. Legend of Zelda comes in with 3,150, while Adventure of Link has 3,503 points.

In the NES Journal, there is an article talking about the Super Famicom, which is set to release in Japan in November. Some screenshots are shown of Super Mario World, as well as mentions of other titles including Flight Club and F-Zer. It is mentioned that the new adventure in the Zelda series is slated for release next year for the Super Famicom.

Nintendo Power Advertisements (p. 96)

An advertisement is shown where readers can order back issues of all previous issues of Nintendo Power Magazine and official Strategy Guides. The 4th issue of Nintendo Power is shown, featuring The Adventure of Link on the cover. There is also mention of The Legend of Zelda Tips & Tactics Strategy Guide available for purchase.
