We call them Skyloftian simply because they live in Skyloft, since they aren't explicitly given a name in-game. But aren't they essentially Hylians? They are followers of of the Goddess Hylia, and that is what "Hylian" means. According to the timeline, this is the first game, before Hyrule was created. But they could still be Hylians for as you mentioned before, they worship Hylia. Hylian?
