Floor-Spikes.png are recurring traps that appear throughout the Legend of Zelda Series. They are often used to impeded Link's progress through a dungeon. In some cases they just block Link's path, while in others, Link can walk over the spikes, but he will lose health.
Phantom Hourglass
In Phantom Hourglass, Floor Spikes are often used as a barrier to prevent Link from progressing to a new part of a dungeon. Often times they block a pathway and they can be deactivated by solving a puzzle or defeating all of the enemies in an area. In some areas, Floor Spikes will appear and retract every few moments, and Link will need to time his movements to avoid by hit by the spikes.
