Fairy's have been around since the first Zelda game, and have always been a incredible source of help for Link. Template:Item

Fairy's Purposes

Fairy's are mainly a source of health for Link, but have served several other uses throughout all of Links quests.

Original

Fairys started out as being a random encounter from dead monsters or items, and if touched, would heal Link a great deal. Although if you visited certain places, you could find a Fairy Fountain, where the Fairys would fully heal Link, and could always be found.

Bottles

Bottles changed what could be done with these little things, by stuffing them inside bottles, Link could make use their healing magic on command. Also if Link should die, then the fairy would of its own initiative restore Links health before flying away.

Great Fairy

Great Fairy's are only found at Fairy Fountains, and not all of them. These fairy's fully restore Links health and magic, and some of them bestow magical abilities on Link, enabling him to cast powerful spells like Din's Fire or increase his overall magic capacity, or magically increasing his defense. Great Fairy's are powerful, rare and well sought after for their gifts. Said fairy's also are mature in form and tend to be wearing little more than ivy to cover themselves.

Fairy Queen

Link met the Fairy Queen one time in Wind Waker, where she bestowed on him the ability to use both Fire and Ice arrows. Despite being the queen, she holds the appearance of a child and carry's a doll of a Great Fairy. However though, she's the most powerful and judging from her dialogue, the most ancient fairy.
