Nintendo announced late Tuesday evening that online services for both the 3DS and Wii U will be discontinued in April 2024 (with a specific time and date to be announced later). According to the announcement, “online play and other functionality that uses online communication,” which includes “online co-operative play, internet rankings, and data distribution,” will end for software on both systems next year. The discontinuation will apply to all members of the 3DS and Wii U families of systems, including…

In a shocking revelation, composer of many Zelda projects, Ryo Nagamatsu, has left Nintendo for new horizons. Nagamatsu’s departure comes after 17 years with Nintendo, where he worked on titles such as Tri Force Heroes, A Link Between Worlds, Link’s Awakening (2019), Mario Kart 8, and Splatoon 2 and 3. Leaving on good terms, Nagamatsu expressed on Twitter that he aims to “work a little wider and more directly” for those who need his help and to “help the industry.”  …

Another spin around the sun has come and went, and with it, the latest installment of Zelda Dungeon’s proudest yearly tradition: Best. Zelda. Ever! 2022 marked the first year in quite some time where we had no real Zelda activity. No new games were released, no new projects were announced, it was… quiet. Although we got a title for the long-awaited sequel to Breath of the Wild, 2022 seemed like a year that could best be described as the calm…

Zelda Dungeon is back with a new entry in the “Definitive Ranking” series! Hosts Mases and Gooey take a deep dive into one of the most divisive games in the Zelda series: Tri Force Heroes! The 2015 multiplayer spinoff, developed by Nintendo and Grezzo, uses the same engine and art style as A Link Between Worlds. Tri Force Heroes also uses the same Energy Gauge that the 2013 game used. The spinoff is set in the Kingdom of Hytopia, which…

In the early days of the Zelda franchise, the wardrobe choices for Link were limited. Nevertheless, as a kid in the 80s and 90s, I loved tracking down the Red and Blue Rings in The Legend of Zelda and seeing Link transform his appearance. Finding the Blue and Red Mail in A Link to the Past was a highlight every run and really gave me the sense that Link was becoming more powerful. When I wasn’t sitting in front of the TV, I…

Ganon and Ganondorf cast a long shadow over the Zelda series. The Great King of Evil (and his various incarnations) have been the villain in a large amount of games, which means the player often end their experience in Hyrule by battling Ganon. With that being said, it is always interesting when a game features a final boss that is not Ganon. Whether it is Link’s Shadow, Majora, or Vaati, the non-Ganon villains help keep the gameplay and storytelling from…

It has been a long few years since we last had a multiplayer Zelda game. As we continue to await the anticipated release of a certain “sequel” game, many including myself have looked back at previous releases and wondered about the legacy of multiplayer installments for the Zelda franchise. The previous multiplayer entry Triforce Heroes was released in 2015, and was actually the eighteenth original entry in the Zelda franchise. Breath of the Wild was the nineteenth entry released two…

If you’ve listened to the Champions’ Cast even a little, you probably know that The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is Andy’s least favorite Zelda game, so this week, we asked YOU to send us questions about the 3DS title for us to unpack. In addition to explaining why Andy thinks Tri Force Heroes is a bad Zelda game, the gang answer questions like what did they think of the totem mechanic, what their favorite outfit from the game…
