In a shocking revelation, composer of many Zelda projects, Ryo Nagamatsu, has left Nintendo for new horizons.

Nagamatsu’s departure comes after 17 years with Nintendo, where he worked on titles such as Tri Force Heroes, A Link Between WorldsLink’s Awakening (2019), Mario Kart 8, and Splatoon 2 and 3. Leaving on good terms, Nagamatsu expressed on Twitter that he aims to “work a little wider and more directly” for those who need his help and to “help the industry.”

Nagamtsu’s work appears far and wide across Nintendo’s library of games, a legacy that’s no small thing. One of his most popular pieces outside of Zelda which you may recognize is Mario Kart‘s “Coconut Mall,” which he composed alongside Asuka Ota. Here’s a list of the games and projects he’s worked on from the Nintendo Wiki.

Here’s to a bright future for Nagamtsu and those his music touches. What’s your favorite track or piece by Nagamatsu? Are you sad to hear about his leaving Nintendo? Let us know in the comments below!
