Gorons: a stout race. Known for their stony hides, fraternal social structures, and penchant for dang delicious rock sirloin, they’ve been a series staple for many years. But what of the culture of our bouldering brothers? How do they fashion themselves? Just how much does their biology allow? In some games like Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword, and even Breath of the Wild, we see them sprout little tufts of hair from their lil’ dumpling heads, some even sporting billowing beards…

Enemies. We all have our favorites, the ones we love, and the ones we love to hate. But, have you ever considered which you would want to be? Let’s say, hypothetically – everyone loves a good hypothetical, right? – you find yourself transported into the land of Hyrule. Darkness has fallen. Things aren’t looking so great; they’re bleak, and covered in the blackish-reddish-pinkish ichor of Malice. Ganon reigns supreme now. And you…aren’t the hero. In fact, it is your mission…

Can the Zelda timeline actually be articulated? Since the timeline’s official release in the Hyrule Historia back in 2011, this is a hot question that has been pondered, sworn by and over, and debated by fans of the series until we turn blue in the face. And then, you know, when we finally think we somewhat have the grasp of it, Nintendo has to go and throw a couple wrenches into their own mess with the Encyclopedia and the revelation of Breath of the Wild’s…

The Zelda series has always knocked it out of the park with its games’ box art and external packaging. The talented artists of Nintendo have time and time again delivered an inviting and endearing glimpse at the adventure that awaits in each title, whether they present a striking mural / collage of characters and set pieces, or they represent the class and majesty of the Zelda brand through a gold-centric design. But we can’t have a debate if we all…

I like to think that I have some degree of self control, but every biannual Steam sale and every big Humble Bundle seems to be a huge temptation for the binge gamer that lives within me. When I see every game in a given series for sale at a reasonable price, I can barely stop myself from dumping the contents of my wallet right then and there. And I’m easily enticed by fancy series collections put out by big developers,…

I love cosplay, and I know I am not alone. It’s one of the most popular forms of art across all different kinds of fandoms. To see so many people put their talents and hours into bringing life to beloved characters is never anything short of amazing. And not only do these costumes reflect what we see in game, but every time one comes to fruition, it’s unique, the artist’s interpretation of what they see and feel. So, let’s take…

Ganondorf. You know him. You’ve fought him. Constantly portrayed as the King of Thieves, the Dark Lord, so many monikers instilling fear, and you may have even come to love him as such. Trademarked by the Triforce of Power and that deep rumbling laugh that lets Link know he’s in for a fight of the ages, Ganondorf is one of the most iconic characters of the Zelda series. Yet he’s always been the enemy, and the one we know, in the end,…

The Zelda Dungeon Marathon is fast approaching. With such a short time left until we begin raising money for Extra Life, Gooey and Mases are here to give a preview of what is to come for this year. The Zelda Dungeon Marathon will run from July 14th through July 20th. The ZD team will be playing through all of the Zelda titles and a ton of the side games. ZD is supporting Extra Life and will be live streaming on…

On May 18th, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition dropped for the Nintendo Switch, which made the game available for three different consoles. You can now play Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U, the 3DS, and the aforementioned Switch. Right before The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild came out, I purchased Hyrule Warriors for the 3DS, and while I had really enjoyed it, I was slightly disappointed, because the graphics didn’t really seem to fit that system. Everything else was fantastic,…

Nintendo, in my eyes, is notorious for creating Special Editions, Limited Editions, Collector’s Editions, Master Editions, and pretty much any other name under the sun that will help them sell their product. I have seen this particularly in The Legend of Zelda franchise with its games and merchandise, particularly with Breath of the Wild. This game had two of the aforementioned Editions, as well as an Explorer’s Edition, a limited edition first print for the complete soundtrack, a couple fancy Piggyback guides and…
