Hello wherever/whenever you are, I’m Matt! I started at Zelda Dungeon on April 3, 2018. I grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in good ol’ Canada, and spent four years in Winnipeg where I was awarded my Bachelor of Music. I’ve been writing short/dumb stories for most of my life, but I’ve only seriously gotten into writing more recently. I’m currently working on three different novels, one about dragons and magic, a detective novel, and one about hijinx on the high seas. I love to read, some of my favourites are classics like Lord of the Rings and Les Misérables and mystery novels like the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the Hannibal Lecter series.

My hobbies/interests are very hodgepodge. As a music major, naturally I listen to a variety of music. I dig classical music, my favourite composer being Chopin, but my real passion is for rock and/or roll. I started on the drum kit before moving to classical percussion instruments, so I grew up listening to Rush (my personal favourite!), The Who, and Led Zeppelin. Most recently I’ve gotten into a band called Dream Theatre (check them out if you like Prog/Heavy Metal!). I’m not super big into sports unless it’s fencing (the one with skinny swords), which I’ve practiced for a couple years. On the side, I’ve also been working on a Youtube channel focusing on doing stupid challenges in my favourite games, mainly minimalist runs of Zelda games. I love to do movie marathons with my friends, my crowning achievement being staying up a full 23 hours to watch all the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings extended editions, and watching musicals with my wife.

When it comes to video games, the Zelda series is obviously my favourite, but picking one as the best is a tough challenge. I really have to categorize/cheat. Nostalgically, it’s Ocarina of Time, hands down. Musically and gameplay-wise, Twilight Princess for sure. Story has to go to Skyward Sword. But for the sake of actually answering the question, my most favourite Zelda game to replay over and over has to go to Link’s Awakening. The game just has a certain silly and whimsical charm that I feel no game has captured since.
