Shield
This familiar item has been a staple in the Zelda franchise since the beginning. It seems to be similar to the Hylian Shield from past Zelda adventures. The Shield in Skyward Sword is used primarily for defense against attacks. The Shield can be used at the same time as the Sword in combat for defense during fights with enemies. It is able to deflect certain projectiles back at enemies, such as acorns. It seems to work like past Shields in 3D Zelda games.
