Magnifying Lens

The magnifiying lens is the final item in the trading squence in Links Awakening. It is obtained from a hidden chest underneath the mermaid statue, which can be moved once you use a scale given to you by a mermaid in the Bay. Its main use is to read the 'true path' through the Wind Fishes egg. It can also be used to obtain the boomerang.

Power/abilities

The magnifying lens has a passive effect, meaning it was always active. It has no effect on overall gamplay. The only time it is needed is to read the text of a book called "Dark Secrets of Koholint island", which is too small to read without one. This book is found in the library and , without it, it is almost impossible to complete the game without it.

The only other use it has is to get the boomerang. With the magnifying lens in Links possession, he is able to see a Goriya living in a cave on the beach. He is willing to trade a boomerang for 'the item in your B slot'. Just give him your shovel, and you have the boomerang. You can trade back at any time, with no consquences. This is the only time Goriyas are shown in-game.
