The Big Key is used to open the door that leads to the dungeon boss, Fyrus. It has been split into three pieces by the Goron Elders. Each Goron Elder that is in the mines has a piece, so Link must travel to each one and get the three pieces. After collecting all three pieces, Link can combine them to create the Big Key.
