Before when Link had the Zora's Flippers, he could just hold one of the directions on the D-pad, causing him to swim in that direction. Once Link obtains the Mermaid Suit, he swims by tapping the D-pad. Pressing the A-button allows Link to use items underwater, such as his sword or the [[Switch Hook]]. Pressing the B-button causes Link to dive underwater or to resurface.
