Of the many games in which Nintendo’s flagship character Mario has been featured, one of most memorable is the flat, paper-like classic known as Paper Mario. This RPG title re-envisioned the long-running Mario franchise with creativity and charm, and fans of Nintendo have since wondered what such a re-imagining would look like for The Legend of Zelda. Well, look no further than this recent fan-animated short from YouTube channel 64 Bits.

Various artists harnessed the child-like charm of the Paper Mario games and applied it to the Zelda franchise, flipping through animated “crafts” that showcase beloved Zelda games. A parody of Paper Mario, the video shows enemies like Gohma from The Wind Waker and cuccos from across the Zelda series in a turn-based arena. Navi, Link’s companion fairy, is even designed to resemble the Pixl named Tippi from Super Paper Mario.

Set to a remix of “Hyrule Field” from Ocarina of Time, the animation goes on to pay tribute to key scenes from games like The Minish Cap, Majora’s Mask, and even Breath of the Wild 2. All in all, the video teases the idea of a Paper Zelda title and proves that the concept would indeed be as adorable as anticipated.
