The Zelda series is one that is fundamentally rooted in connections — connections between where we are and where we’re going, connections between real life and being immersed into Hyrule, and of course the way it connects us to other people. Ever since 1986, siblings have fought over controllers, friends have gone to the house that has the newest console, and parents have found themselves drawn in to what was initially meant to be an industry geared towards kids. As…

Although The Legend of Zelda is one of the most beloved franchises in pop culture, representation in the real-world is often limited to the occasional merchandise sighting or Nintendo-endorsed event. Although too shy to actually say anything, I often get excited when I see someone wearing a baseball cap with a Triforce or a T-shirt with the Hylian Crest. It’s a phenomenon that turns strangers into comrades in arms. This is why the prospect of a fan-curated public Zelda art…

There echoes a legend around these parts, betwixt these trees and within these dark woods. Yet, it wasn’t one of those legends of heroes, stories meant to inspire courage into wide-eyed youths. It was meant to breed cowardice, warn children of the dangers that may befall them should their curiosity lead them into the dark woods. Far distant from any kingdom, a village sat. In its shadows, deep into a forest no one dared venture, there was said to be…

The Zelda series is one that is not only deeply seeded in lore, but also has enough wiggle-room to encourage branches upon branches of theories. In fact, one of Nintendo’s main goals with the Zelda series is to balance those two things. Although it is simplistic to boil an entire series down so simply, I believe that Mario games are a sandbox for gameplay and Zelda games are a sandbox for where your imagination can take you. There are exceptions…

Filling out the Nintendo Gallery in The Wind Waker is one of my favorite side quests in the series. Something about seeing all these eccentric character and enemy designs in one place was always very exciting. Even though the figurines were just as real as their in-game origins, it still felt long-lasting in an immersive way. Zelda fans in Southern California will get to experience such visual immersion through a real-life gallery that pops up this upcoming weekend. “Artifacts of…

It’s the news that we knew was inevitable. We’ve been anticipating it with excitement and intrigue, while simultaneously hoping it never crossed our headlines. Adaptation is a word that ensues uncertainty in all of us, being one that has been a source of both wild successes and terrible tragedies. Any adaptation can be a hit or a miss, and because the Zelda series is beloved by so many, the stakes are high to deliver something special, worthwhile, and respectful. Nintendo…

As the Zelda series gets closer to the big 40, it goes without saying that it encompasses a wide berth of time. Whether you grew up in the 80s with the NES or your first Zelda game was Breath of the Wild, the Zelda series has reached in some way into each of our childhoods. And if you didn’t approach the series until adulthood, it at least ignited a childhood within you that sparked joy and an adventurous spirit. As a kid, I sought…

As previously announced in June of this year, amiibo depicting Zelda and Ganondorf from Tears of the Kingdom will hit the shelves soon. The September Nintendo Direct that aired this morning officially narrowed down the vague “Holiday 2023” release to a set date of November 3rd. Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to Breath of the Wild, has been a rousing success thus far. Developers have proved the 2017 iteration of Hyrule to be quite the lucrative one, pulling from it three expansive experiences that players have loved immensely. While no one game is without its faults, Zelda fans have been absolutely charmed by Tears of the Kingdom, by the gameplay, story, and mechanics that feel at all times familiar and new in a captivating way….

The Zelda series is one that bleeds with themes of destiny, birthrights, and submitting to the designs of a higher power. Through the protagonist Link, as well as other characters, we often see a type of heroism that involves a call to action via this idea of destiny. The hero Link is fated to save Princess Zelda by defeating Ganon, a triangular formula that has equated to a consistently successful chain of adventure games. Although the formula has its fair…
