Ever since the reported Nintendo-related server hack and subsequent data leak earlier this year, fans have unearthed many unused character models and sprites, prototype and beta content, and source codes for a multitude of classic Nintendo titles. Among the wealth of intriguing Zelda content spanning the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Nintendo 64 generations, this so-called “Giga Leak” has produced files for the fabled beta dungeon seen in early footage for Ocarina of Time. Thanks to this groundbreaking discovery, Zelda…

Welcome back for the long awaited return of Zelda Runners, your bi-weekly dive into the world of Zelda speedrunning. Before we begin, allow me to first introduce myself. My name is Doug, and I will be taking over this column from Euan. I dabble in some speedrunning, myself, with such games as Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts, Shadowgate, Mega Man 2, and of course, the Zelda franchise. It’s my goal to provide the same quality information as my predecessor, and to…

Back in 2017 at the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference (CEDEC), Nintendo gave attendees a treat by showing off an early build of Breath of the Wild. With the game having been released six months earlier to much acclaim, Nintendo offered a little insight into the development process, as they had done at GDC in March of that same year. Unfortunately, however, that footage was only ever shown to the people in attendance, until today. Thanks to Pixelpar and Vicente Quesada…

Everyone makes mistakes, and sometimes those mistakes can have humorous results. Irish author John Boyne, perhaps best known for the 2006 historical novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, recently released his latest novel, A Traveller At The Gates of Wisdom, to positive reviews. But while readers have praised the book for its ambition and originality, it has also caught the attention of video game fans for its use of a familiar recipe for “red dye.” Pictures surfaced on Reddit over…

Ever since the Zelda timeline was worked into canon, there have been several gaps that felt worthy of exploring. These gaps span a few hundred years collectively, and leave the story of events to our own imagination. Popular modder Kaze Emanuar has taken it upon himself to fill one such gap, and has created an unofficial interquel between Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. His new mod is appropriately named The Legend of Zelda: The Missing Link and is designed…

It’s Christmas in July if you’re interested in the development of a game from its beta phase to the finished product. Tons of data showcasing prototypes of retro Nintendo games have leaked online, reportedly originating from a breach of BoardOn’s servers back in May, yielding an estimated two terabytes of data. We previously reported on the unearthing of 16-bit side-scrolling Link sprites, which was by far the highlight for Zelda news to come out of the wave of leaks involving…

Back in May, news broke of a supposed server hack related to BoardOn, a company that collaborated with Nintendo on development of the Wii. There was so much data collected that some people have called it “one of the largest hacks in gaming history”. Now that people are really digging into the source code that has been leaked, various prototypes of retro Nintendo games are being unearthed, including Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Nintendo 64 games, and there is likely…

To capitalize on the excitement, the game’s developers, Brace Yourself Games, will be hosting their first Twitch live stream since the announcement tomorrow afternoon. Brace Yourself Games will be hosting a live stream on July 24th, starting at 1PM PST. While we’re certainly hoping to see some more sneak peeks at the upcoming Cadence of Hyrule…

During this morning’s Nintendo Direct Mini, three new DLC packs were announced for Cadence of Hyrule. The first two packs will feature new characters and music for the game, respectively, but, most excitingly, the third DLC pack will feature brand new story content. Titled Symphony of the Mask, this story DLC will star popular Zelda character Skull Kid, and it will feature new maps and new songs. The reveal trailer offered a small taste of Symphony of the Mask, showing…

A recent Nintendo Direct Mini has finally brought some Zelda news to eager fans.
