Ocarina of Time was of course the very first 3D Zelda title, so naturally, everything that the previous games did so well had to be translated to the 3rd dimension. This included Zelda’s iconic boss battles, and the Nintendo 64 classic proved that even in 3D, the giant monsters towering over Link were just as fun to fight. This week, we are going over our absolute favorites of all of Ocarina of Time‘s bosses, and mini-bosses, too. As usual, feel…

In this week’s Famitsu issue, Tri Force Heroes is one of the highlighted games with an 8 page spread. The pages show off a few different characters in the game, some of the costumes, as well as all the different areas, weapons, and a few bosses. The page layout seems reminiscent of the issues of Nintendo Power back in the day when strategy guides didn’t exist, and the internet was not what it is today, and the glossy pages of…

Nintendo UK has just released a commercial for The legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes. In it we see our heroes solving puzzles, battling foes, and changing into the many different costumes available. Dungeons, Monsters, and Costume Changes, OH MY! Head past the break to check it out.

Among the various subjects upon which Aonuma touched in his Iwata Asks discussion was that of the boss fights in Majora’s Mask 3D. As many have noticed from pre-release videos and, now that the game is out, from their own experiences, the fights have been changed rather drastically from their original iterations in the Nintendo 64 version. These alterations were even more drastic that we realized, and with good reason: Aonuma built them up from scratch. His reasoning behind it includes a hope to guide the players to find the bosses’…

I think that it is fair to say that Zelda is o stranger to having fights with larger-than-life, hulking monsters for bosses at the end of its dungeons. It is almost always expected that you will find a great, big monster to take down for the next magic artifact or whatever. What is not expected, and actually a nice chage of pace, is normal-sized, human-like villains that challenge you to a duel to the death. They have a certain something…

When it comes to stories set in a medieval or pseudo-medieval setting, soon or later you’ll run into dragons. Either in the flesh or just referenced, there is something primordial, something alluring to large serpentine monsters. Many cultures who have had contact of some kind with scaled creatures from snakes to crocodiles have eventually developed a large and mighty variant of it: from the Chinese Dong Fang Qing Long (The Azure Dragon of the East), the Iranian Zahhak (known as…

The Zelda series is home to a vast variety of engaging enemies. From Skulltulas to Octoroks to Stalfos to Redeads, there really is no shortage of bad dudes for Link to slice to pieces. Many classic enemies from the 2D Zelda titles have found their way into 3D titles, most notably with this year’s Hyrule Warriors, which reintroduced classic 2D bosses Manhandla and Gohma. This has had me thinking – what other 2D Zelda enemies are ripe for slaying in a 3D environment?

Bosses are some of the most judged things in Zelda nowadays. There are some parts of each game that stick in people’s minds and make the heaviest impact, and many of those things are that particular game’s bosses. Recently, Skyward Sword gave us some of the most praised AND most hated bosses in the series, and A Link Between Worlds brought us both new bosses, and classic ones with an added twist, but what next? What styles and gameplay should…
