Awesome Games done Quick 2016 is over now, and after a solid week of awesome speedruns and raising just north of 1.2 million dollars, the Games Done Quick YouTube channel is well into the process of posting the runs individually. Just recently they added the Adventure of Link speedrun, which was tool-assisted – completely played through by a pre-programmed set of controller inputs. This means that human error is out the window, so if you are one of the people…

Hello everybody and welcome to the latest edition of Zelda Dungeon Talks. Today, we are going to be finding out what various staff members believe are the positives of their least favorite Zelda game. We all have that one Zelda game that holds a special place in our hearts, that one game that we can call our favorite. On the other hand we also have that one Zelda game that stands out as the worst we have played, that one…

Sad Toy Cats is a musical project based out of New York that has performed many different covers inspired by several of Nintendo’s most beloved games, such as Super Mario Bros., Earthbound and many from our very own The Legend of Zelda. Their latest cover is based on the Temple theme from Zelda II on the NES. Head on past the break to give it a listen.

Last March, we announced that Elliot Quest, a game that pays homage to the second Zelda title, Zelda II, was releasing on the Wii U eShop after being available on Steam for some time. It appears as if the game has been very successful on Nintendo’s newest home console, as Elliot Quest will be receiving a 3DS edition some time in 2016.

Don’t know too much about the game itself?…

Before Hyrule Historia was published, Zelda fans had long debated the nature of a Zelda timeline. Some correctly posited that the timeline was split between Child Link and Adult Link timelines when Zelda sent Adult Link back in time after he defeated Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time. But the existence of a third timeline branch, wherein Link was defeated by Ganondorf, exasperated many fans, striking some as a cop-out. Yet, Vortexxygaming has concocted a theory that not only satisfactorily explains the Downfall Timeline but also ties together many loose ends, demystifying the overall Zelda narrative as we know it…

Today, I stumbled across what may be the best cover of a Zelda II song that I have ever heard. The strange thing? It’s only on one instrument.

In episode 36 of the podcast, we talk with one of Adam’s longstanding idols about some of the burning questions in the Zelda community: What makes Zelda II so terrible? Can you properly mod a Zelda game? And what exactly IS the Nintendo World Championship? This week’s podcast crew seeks these answers and more. But first, your team for this week is…

Many of us Zelda fans can remember the first time we saw a shining gold cartridge out of the corner of our eyes, beginning our lifelong obsessions with the iconic series. Well, have you ever wondered exactly how often Zelda games have utilized glistening gold in its packaging? Luckily, Zelda super-fan Brett Elston on Laser Time has written up a comprehensive record of golden game packaging Zelda has endowed us with…

Welcome to the sixth installment of Piece of Heart, where we look at The Legend of Zelda series through the eyes of a literary professor and examine how its literary elements enhance the gaming experience. This week’s lesson is titled “Hanseldee and Greteldum” so we’ll scour the Zelda series in search of parallels to fairy tales (oddly enough I found none alluding to Hansel and Gretel, nor Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, so I changed the title rather than be…

Leveling up your character in video games has been an entertaining element for many since the 1980’s. In fact, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link had a leveling up system: upgrading magic, health, and attack damage. We saw the return of this system in Hyrule Warriors, but on a more complex scale. Do we as a community want the ability to level up Link in future Zelda titles such as…
