The Bomb is a classic Zelda item throughout the series, and it has appeared in almost every Zelda game except The Adventure of Link. Bombs are most often used to blow up walls to uncover secrets and they are regularly stored in a Bomb Bag. In the Zelda series the bombs have been appearing with a variety of different functions, and they have been used in many different ways.

Bomb Arrow

In Link's Awakening one could combine Bombs with the Bow and Arrow, that way one created Bomb Arrows which could reach much further to places that Link could not get to himself. The Bomb Arrows were much improved later on in Twilight Princess.

Bomb Flower

In many of the Zelda titles we have had Bomb Flowers. Bomb Flowers can be found almost anywhere in the overworld or dungeons, but they are more common in volcanic areas such as Death Mountain, Dragon Roost Island and Eldin Volcano. To use a Bomb Flower one will first have to pick it up and then throw it wherever they want. In Skyward Sword however, one will bee able to pick up a Bomb Flower and store it in the Bomb Bag for later use.

Bombchu

In Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages and Phantom Hourglass we had the Bombchus. They were able to zoom forward until they went into something and blew up, being able to crawl on walls and ceilings. The Bombling in Twilight Princess served a similar purpose, but could only run foward.

Powder Keg

In Majora's Mask we had the Powder Keg which was a super powerful bomb that could only be used by Link in his Goron form. The Powder Keg was first used to blow up the rock covering the entrance to the Goron Racetrack. Later on it was used to blow up the giant rock in front of Romani Ranch on the first day in order to get Epona back. It was also used in Ikana Castle to create a hole in the roof.

Blast Mask

The Blast Mask is another unique bombing item from Majora's Mask. It is a mask that can be used to blow up things very similar to Bombs. When the Blast Mask is used it will take a while to charge up again, and it will also hurt the player. However, if Link uses his shield when he uses the Blast Mask he will not take any damage.

Water Bomb

In Twilight Princess there were the Water Bombs which could explode under water. To place a Water Bomb in the water Link has to be in the water himself wearing the Iron Boots (if he is not standing on the edge to the water dropping one down). Water Bombs can be purchased early on in the game by Barnes, and later if Malo opens his shop in Castle Town the Water Bombs can be purchased for a very low price. There is a way to get Water Bombs for free though, if Link starts fishing in a place with Bombfish(Lakebed Temple for instance) he will be able to catch them and store them in the Water Bomb inventory.

Skyward Sword

The functions of the normal Bomb have been very much improved in Skyward Sword. Instead of just being able to place and throw Bombs, the player will be able to roll them across the ground a great distance; this makes some occasions a lot easier. Two other brand new mechanics are introduced in Skyward Sword, the first one lets your pick up a normal Bomb Flower and store it in your Bomb Bag, and the other new thing is that if Link is on fire while taking out a Bomb from the Bomb will explode immediately and cause damage.
