One thing I always appreciated about IGN’s rewind theater was how it focuses a lot on just the facts rather than speculation. Not that the folks over at GameXplain do a bad job with the facts either—they often find stuff IGN misses—but they blend it with their theories and ideas so frequently it is sometimes hard for the viewer to decipher opinion from truth. It also helps that I always enjoy Jose Otero. Of course, you aren’t here to read what I have to say, but rather to see what they have to say. Head inside.

…We’re really asking for it here, aren’t we?

The mere mention of Sheik’s gender is one of those things that can send Zelda fans into all-out RAEG MODE at a moment’s notice. It’s been fiercely debated (read: argued via deafening screaming matches) ever since Ocarina of Time was released; fuel was only added to the fire when the OoT manga, while non-canon, chose to support the side of Zelda actually transforming into a boy for the seven years Link slept through. Meanwhile, the equally non-canonical Super Smash Bros. series treats the alter ego as decidedly feminine. And today we’ve learned that the “survivor of the Sheikah“—as Sheik refers to him/herself in OoT—will be joining the ranks of playable characters in the also non-canon Hyrule Warriors. We just haven’t yet gotten a translation that indicates which gender this game will go with.

So grab your noise-cancelling headphones (and maybe a sturdy suit of armor while you’re at it), and join us after the jump for today’s Daily Debate: should Hyrule Warriors‘ Sheik be male or female?

For those holding out for all the sages from Ocarina of Time to be playable in Hyrule Warriors, it looks like your prayers are being answered, at least partially. Ruto and Darunia have been confirmed alongside Sheik to be playable characters in Hyrule Warriors. NabooruRauru, and Saria still have not been confirmed.

The news comes from Famitsu’s website where a small snippet of the magazine can be seen detailing Sheik. New weapons for Impa and Lana were also detailed in the magazine, and collectible Gold Skulltulas were also mentioned to be appearing in Hyrule Warriors. This is currently all we know about the scan from Famitsu. We’ll keep you updated with more news as it becomes available.

Just yesterday the official Hyrule Warriors Twitter was teasing that we would be shown a new character, and without missing a beat, Famitsu has given us not just one character, but three! And the headliner for these new characters is none other than Sheik! Who are the other two, you ask? Hit the jump to find out!
