sheik-hyrule-header-640x360The latest Hyrule Warriors trailer is as much a treat for the ears as it is the eyes, as Sheik displays deadly proficiency with knives and a harp! How does Tecmo Koei’s new trailer compare to the previous ones?

Hit the jump to find out!

Sheik certainly knows how to make an entrance, as we see her playing her very own theme at the beginning of the trailer. Officially referred to as “Harp” in the trailer, Sheik totes her signature harp from Ocarina of Time, which bears a striking resemblance to the Goddess’s Harp. Sheik’s basic attacks appear to be comprised of her striking swiftly with knives, while her more elaborate moves summon elementally charged attacks which differ depending on the song she plays. As one might guess, she seems incredibly nimble, with several of her techniques involving her teleporting from one place to another, making her a seemingly difficult target to hit. Her attacks also have a surprising amount of range, especially the knife combo we see near the end of the trailer.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Sheik is how she uses the harp in battle. She can simply pluck it a few times for a quick elemental strike, or play an entire song for a more prolonged effect. Each song from Ocarina of Time seems to provide a type of long-lasting effect to aid Sheik in some way. For instance, the “Nocturne of Shadow” produces a kind of black hole that traps opponents in place and steadily deals damage, while the “Song of Storms” creates a storm (who would have guessed) that surrounds Sheik and hurts anything that gets near her. If you listen closely, you can hear many more Ocarina of Time tunes being played, all of which provide some sort of boon for Sheik. Between her devastating magic effects with the harp and her rapid knife attacks, the fleet-footed Sheik appears to be quite the terror on the battlefield.

I can’t even describe how happy I am with how they made Sheik in this game. Using the harp and knives in tandem with one another looks like it will be a blast, don’t you think? What do you suppose the next trailer will be? Something showcasing a new weapon, or perhaps a character we haven’t seen yet?
