YouTube user InsaneInTheRainMusic posted this video earlier today, and it will truly knock your socks off. He gives the Hyrule Temple Theme from Zelda II (probably best known for its use in the Hyrule Temple stage in Super Smash Bros Melee) a jazzy makeover, and it is simply beautiful. This is easily one of the best renditions of this song that I have heard in a long time.

While looking around for some new Zelda music covers to listen to, I stumbled across this epic Majora’s Mask medley. At almost 30 minutes long, it’s probably the single longest medley I’ve ever have the pleasure of listening to, and boy did I enjoy it. Shorter medleys can’t necessarily afford to spend as long on each bit of music, however this one feels full, and definitely has become one of my favorites. It’s a half an hour of piano playing to the…

Medleys seem to be the most popular way to cover Zelda music, and I’ve often wondered why that is. I suppose it would be rather disappointing to listen to music in 30-45 seconds chunks, and considering a lot of Zelda music is designed to loop after a short period of time, single pieces that lasted 2 minutes could get boring. Either way, hit the jump to listen to a fantastic piano and violin medley!

Sometimes I wish I could go back to the announcement and release of Skyward Sword. Skyward Sword was the first Zelda game release that I was present for and involved in the community for the entire time, and I have many fond memories of watching trailers and reading theories, especially finding out that the main theme was Zelda’s Lullaby backwards. Here’s a bit of a throwback to the end of 2011, when Skyward Sword was released. Hit the jump to listen!

About a year and a half ago Nintendo released two music books of official arrangements of Zelda music for guitar and piano. While many people did, and still do create their own fantastic arrangements of Zelda music, this gave people a “standard” source, and is really helpful for people that aren’t as good at playing music by ear. Soon after the books came out, Sathoshi Aikawa, by the YouTube handle GilvaSunner uploaded every single guitar cover in great quality. Recently our favorite YouTube pianist, Kyle Landry, uploaded a video of him playing some tunes on an old upright piano instead of his normal electric keyboard. Not only does this medley contain Zelda music, but also some Kingdom Hearts, Pokémon, and Mario themes! Overall it’s a very soothing medley and definitely worth a listen. The Super Piano Brothers are a pair of classically-trained musicians who have been around, posting beautiful covers and medleys on YouTube, since late January 2012. Calling them quick and graceful is an understatement; one would have to watch at least one of their videos to realize just how quick and graceful they truly are.

If you haven’t already assumed what kind of music they cover, or if you haven’t already clicked any of links, the Super Piano Brothers perform self-composed and arranged music from popular culture, including movies and video games. Straight from their Facebook page, the Super Piano Brothers’ description states:

“Our goal is to bring the results of years of classical training and technique together with our passion for awesome stuff like video games and movies, and then to share that enjoyment with others.”

There’s also their most recent medley to check out after the jump, a combination between Final Fantasy X‘s “To Zanarkand” (A song that can bring one to emotional tears of joy) and the “Gerudo Valley” theme from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Need I even say anything?)

This week on Windmill Hut we have another wonderful piano medley by Kyle Landry! Though much shorter than his Ocarina of Time medley, I think the elegance and beauty of this medley makes up for that. Like all Kyle Landry works, this melody is again rich, and leaves the listener with the desire to play a Zelda game, or at the very least listen to the medley over again. Hit the jump to listen!

This week on Windmill Hut we have another medley by Kyle Landry, except this time it’s specifically about the songs in Ocarina of Time. Of course, being a Kyle Landry video, this is piano medley, but it’s also a huge conglomeration of music from different parts of the game that add up to almost 14 minutes! In terms of length this is one of the longer medleys we’ve seen. It’s certainly not the longest medley that exists, but I’d argue that it’s…

To coincide with Jordan’s Flute Boy’s Meadow this week, we have for you on Windmill Hut not one, not two, but four different versions of Tal Tal Heights. This popular tune from the end of Link’s Awakening has been covered in varying ways to different effects, but none seem to diverge too far from the intentions of the original theme- to make the player feel excited and accomplished at the same time.
