The Super Piano Brothers are a pair of classically-trained musicians who have been around, posting beautiful covers and medleys on YouTube, since late January 2012. Calling them quick and graceful is an understatement; one would have to watch at least one of their videos to realize just how quick and graceful they truly are.

If you haven’t already assumed what kind of music they cover, or if you haven’t already clicked any of links, the Super Piano Brothers perform self-composed and arranged music from popular culture, including movies and video games. Straight from their Facebook page, the Super Piano Brothers’ description states:

“Our goal is to bring the results of years of classical training and technique together with our passion for awesome stuff like video games and movies, and then to share that enjoyment with others.”

While they may not have many videos posted, there’s sure to be more; and with what they’ve posted so far, you’re sure to relive many of your past adventures into video games! I dare you to go listen to their cover of Super Mario 64’s “Bob-omb Battlefield Medley” and demand your 3 minutes back. Don’t actually demand your 3 minutes back, though, I don’t believe there’s any way for you to get them.

While this may seem like a trivial fact, it’s true that there are gamers who consider a game’s music to be one of the least important factors about it. If you can imagine games like Super Smash Bros. Melee or any of The Legend of Zelda games without any kind of music, you can bet that they would be nowhere near as memorable or as renowned as they are today.

“Music produced and presented alongside video games and movies are often underrepresented and overlooked, usually given the patronizing and somewhat derogatory or scornful label ‘background music’. While it is irrefutable that this medium is generally composed to be subservient in nature, it does not undermine its quality or status as a body of art. Art is created with a noble vision in mind and can bestow inspiration on others; this is no different.”

Video games are a medium in which entertainment is had in such a unique style that no other medium can even try to replicate it. The experiences and the joy to be had with video games are endless, timeless, and boundless to that which we attempt to understand. Short and simple, what I’m getting at is: playing video games, there’s really nothing else like it out in the world. Check out the Super Piano Brothers, listen to what they feel and what they want listeners to feel, you will not be sorry.

Sorry about that, I suppose I became a little too passionate about this topic! Anyway, leave a comment and share your thoughts about these Super Mario Piano Brothers!
