The Zelda series is home to a vast variety of engaging enemies. From Skulltulas to Octoroks to Stalfos to Redeads, there really is no shortage of bad dudes for Link to slice to pieces. Many classic enemies from the 2D Zelda titles have found their way into 3D titles, most notably with this year’s Hyrule Warriors, which reintroduced classic 2D bosses Manhandla and Gohma. This has had me thinking – what other 2D Zelda enemies are ripe for slaying in a 3D environment?

King Dodongo was one of the first enemies that we saw with the initial reveal of Hyrule Warriors, but as new information has trickled out, more new enemies have since been announced. In particular, several classic Zelda enemies that appeared in the original Legend of Zelda will be making their way into the game. We know about Dodongo, but we now also have Gohma and Manhandla joining the mix. A batch of new official artwork has been released, including images…

We all know how intimidating some Zelda boss fights can be. After all, most of the time Link is just some tiny kid and he is facing off against huge, ancient, and powerful creatures. The artwork that comes out of these experiences is often breathtaking and impressive, and we’ve all seen depictions of skulltulas that make us cringe and keep the lights on at night. But we’ve found some art pieces that combine the giddy adventurer and the terrifying obstacles…

Queen Gohma artwork

Queen Gohma is a famous Zelda boss. Her first main appearance in Ocarina of Time led to a similar boss in Twilight Princess called Armoghoma. Even though Queen Gohma is an enemy, that doesn’t stop people from creating fantastic pieces of artwork inspired by her! Jump in to read more!

In 2002, a collectors piece called the “Zelda Box” was released alongside The Wind Waker in Japan. The box included a Wind Waker strategy guide and Link figurine among other items. A collection of developer quotes translated by our friend GlitterBerri was included in the box and revealed an interesting concern the developers of The Wind Waker had about Gohma, the first boss that is encountered in the game. Apparently, the developers were unsure if players would be able to figure out the strategy they had…

Although the Forsaken Fortress is first visited before Dragon Roost Cavern, I’m starting this series off with this dungeon and reviewing all the Forsaken Fortress portions at the same time during its revisit. Dragon Roost Cavern is the first full-on dungeon of The Wind Waker, with its predecessor being essentially only half of a dungeon, and one that deviates from the format of the rest of the dungeons in the game at that. As a result, while it falls prey…

In my dungeon review last week I said that Snowpeak Ruins was the last dungeon in Twilight Princess that I had any personal fondness for, so you already know that I don’t particularly care for the Temple of Time. That’s not necessarily to say I find it bad, however. The word I would probably choose for the Temple f Time is… solid. It does its job, but it doesn’t really excel at it. I think that’s a little unfortunate because…

A project that we have been following closely here at Zelda Dungeon is finally complete. Well, at least as far as 2012 is concerned. Link’s Blacklist’s is a tribute project to the enemies in the Zelda series that our friends over at Game-Art-HQ have been running since June. While all the finished images can be viewed on their deviantART group page, it can now be found in it’s entirety on their site. The gallery can be found by clicking here,…

My username is Axle the Beast, so it honestly shouldn’t be all that difficult to figure out that I have a thing for monsters. I’ve loved creatures of all shapes and sizes since before I can remember. I spent a portion of October reviewing them on my website, and before that I wrote an article similar to this one, counting town my top 10 Resident Evil monsters. With Zelda, choosing my favorites was harder because what defines a good monster…

Hey there guys! Well it’s been a while since I’ve done a non-mailbag discussion video, hasn’t it? Well I’ve finally done another one, for real! Haha. So the topic of this one is Eyes in the Zelda Series (well you can see that from the title, of course). What does that mean, though? Well I’ll explain in the video of course, but basically there’s an alarming amount of eyes and eyeballs in the Zelda series. You really notice it once…
