MMOf all the games the the Zelda series it’s Majora’s Mask that is considered to be the black sheep of the series. It has much darker undertones, subtle references and more theories about hidden meanings than I could mention in one post. However, since the release of Ocarina of Time 3D on the 3DS in 2011, fans of the game have been asking for a remake of Majora’s Mask which even culminated in a worldwide petition known as Operation Moonfall which Nintendo have stated they are well aware of. In a recent interview with the director of The Legend of Zelda series Eiji Aonuma, a rather cryptic clue regarding a remake of Majora’s Mask has surfaced.

Take the jump to discover all the info!

After a discussion regarding the upcoming 3DS title A Link Between Worlds (which I am sure you’re well aware of) and showing off a gameplay trailor for the new game, the discussion was opened up to Q&A. According to Pixelitis, one fan asked for any news regarding a remake of Majora’s Mask and Aonuma’s response, through a translator, was:

“If you play through A Link Between Worlds, you may find an answer to your question.”

MM2We have already seen that Majora’s mask itself has been spotted in A Link Between Worlds so maybe this has some connection to the possibilities of a remake for the 3DS. Maybe the mask that is shown in the gameplay footage for A Link Between Worlds is purely there as an Easter egg or maybe you can somehow acquire the mask as part of a trading quest that will eventually lead to a person mentioning something regarding a remake of the game, who knows. In a way, with all the theories and conjecture that surrounds some of the aspects of Majora’s Mask, it’s quite fitting that a statement is released that will cause fans to discuss theories regarding what the statement, and the masks roll in that upcoming game, actual means.

Considering after the release of Ocarina of Time 3DS, Eiji Aunoma mentioned a remake of Majora’s Mask was not an impossibility depending on interest and demand, the fact that Operation Moonfall gathered over 10,000 signatures within five days and that fans are still keen on the idea of the remake, there could be good news in store hidden inside A Link Between Words.

Though I’m not a fan of Majora’s Mask (it wouldn’t even  be in my top 5 Zelda games) a remake with a few additions or changes, like they did with The Wind Waker HD, would be worth checking out.

Are you hoping for a remake? Would you rather the team focused on the new Zelda game for the Wii U rather than doing a third remake? What changes to the game would you like them to make? Let us know in the comments below.
