Producer and musician Helynt is no stranger to Zelda music, having released such high-profile Zelda fan albums as 2020’s Legend of Synthwave and 2022’s Zelda’s Memories. And his new album, Legend of Chillwave, features tracks from an array of Zelda titles, ranging from Link’s Awakening to Tears of the Kingdom, and is dripping with 1980s vibes.

Legend of Chillwave debuted on record label GameChops’ YouTube channel earlier this month. The whole album’s a retrofuture experience. From Helynt’s hazy, dreamy arrangements and production, to the artwork by artist Onsta featuring Zelda riding her motorcycle through a twilit city boasting saturated colors, the concept of the album is simply and beautifully presented.

The talents of Helynt, whose YouTube bio reads only, “Lofi & good vibes,” are on full display in the tunes he selected for the album. The tracklist, filled with chill synthwave beats and instrumentation, is as follows:

  1. “Tears of the Synthwave” (“Main Theme” from Tears of the Kingdom)
  2. “Milk Bar” (from Majora’s Mask)
  3. “Aryll” (Inspired by “Aryll” from Wind Waker)
  4. “Skyloft” (from Skyward Sword)
  5. “Mabe Village” (from Link’s Awakening)
  6. “Spirit Tracks” (from Spirit Tracks)
  7. “Wind Fish” (“Ballad of the Wind Fish” from Link’s Awakening)
  8. “Grandma’s Theme” (from Wind Waker)
  9. “Prelude of Light” (from Ocarina of Time)
  10. “Do You Remember?” (from Breath of the Wild)

The album is available on YouTube, YouTube Music, Spotify, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music, and Beatport.

You can find Helynt over on YouTube, X, Facebook, and Spotify. Check out his Bandcamp page if you’d like to directly support him and his music.

I’ve always had a penchant for the intersection of Zelda music and chillwave, and I’d be hard pressed to pinpoint a favorite track from this album. It’s a toss up for me between “Spirit Tracks” and “Grandma’s Theme,” as they’re both gorgeously presented here.
