Many Zelda games in the past have incorporated a time travel mechanic. Often, it involves Link going between two different times, as in A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Skyward Sword. Majora’s Mask in particular allowed Link to endlessly repeat the same three-day cycle. The sequel to the Breath of the Wild, therefore, would not be out of place by incorporating such a mechanic, not only because of the traditions of it’s predecessors, but because of it’s pre-established potential.

Namely, there would be two schools of thought when it comes to the sequel and time travel. Link and Zelda could travel ten thousand years in the past, discovering more about Ganondorf’s origin, how he manifested as Calamity Ganon, and how to stop the cycle from continuing. Or they could travel a hundred years in the past, preventing the use of Sheikah technology in the first place, therefore saving the champions and the late King, not to mention avoiding the kingdom’s fall to ruin.

It remains to be seen whether or not they will be able to undergo time travel, yet I think it would complicate the storyline in interesting ways.

What do you think? Will Link and Zelda travel through time, or will we only see flashbacks from a hundred or ten thousand years ago? Let us know in the comments below!
