During my first play through of Tears of the Kingdom, I took a headfirst dive into the chasm by Kakariko Village, just expecting to fall into a small underground area of some sort. Boy was I wrong. I was absolutely flabbergasted that an entire mirror of Hyrule was lurking beneath the surface. Discovering that was an insane moment of gaming I’ll never forget! As I spent hours in this hellish underworld, tackling freaky bosses and activating Light Roots, I couldn’t help but feel a longing for more information about this mysterious place.

The Zelda series often features alternative worlds to Hyrule like the Twilight Realm from Twilight Princess, Lorule from A Link Between Worlds, and the Dark World from A Link to the Past, and in those games, we learn quite a bit about these sinister areas. But in Tears of the Kingdom? I’ve traversed all the Depths and still don’t know much about it other than it contains Zonai mining facilities, a few temples, Poe Souls and Bargainer Statues, and the ghosts of dead soldiers who offer Link weapons with little to no explanation. There has to be more to this place. Maybe the DLC will give us some more answers.

What did you think of the Depths? Do you want more information about them? Let me know in the comments!
