The Hero of Hyrule is the Link in the games The Legend of Zelda and The Adventure of Link. He was born in southern Hyrule during the invasion of Ganon a few years following the tragedy of Zelda I. When he was 10 years old he was walking and saw an old lady being attacked by Moblins, he defeated the Moblins and saved the old lady. The lady told Link that her name was Impa and that he was the hero and that he needed to find the eight pieces of the triforce that Zelda had split. Link went to the eight dungeons and claimed the eight pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom. He then went to death mountain, destroyed Ganon, claimed the Triforce of Power, and saved Zelda II from Ganon's lair.

Six years later Link noticed a mark on his hand. He showed this to Impa, who took him to a room with a sleeping princess. Impa said that this was Zelda I who had a sleeping spell put on her many years before. Impa then gave link a box full of six crystals and a scroll. Even though the scrolls were written in a different language Link could read them, They said put the crystals in the six palaces and then go on to the seventh. Link began his quest to claim the Triforce of Courage. He met with many trials and the minions of Ganon who still lived wanted Link's blood to resurrect the demon king. Despite this, Link eventually claimed the Triforce of courage as well as having the Triforce of Wisdom and Power from his previous adventure. Using the might of the full triforce Link awoke Zelda I and became the Hero of Hyrule.
Unlike his predecessors, the Hero of Legend (A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Oracle of Ages, and Oracle of Seasons) and the New Hero of Hyrule (A Link Between Worlds and Tri Force Heroes) the Hero of Hyrule stayed in Hyrule and Helped rebuild after the disastrous effect Ganon's attack had years prior.
During the events of Breath of the Wild, many millennia later the Hero of Hyrule is still remembered and honored by the Hero of the wild's hero tunic (not the champion's tunic).
The Hero of Hyrule is one of the most legendary heroes Hyrule has ever seen along with the Hero of Time (Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask),
The hero of legend (A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Oracle of Ages, and Oracle of Seasons), and the Hero of the Sky (Skyward Sword).
