I have tried to find a source that would prove that not stopping at the Stables and going directly to the Korok Forest will make Hestu appear at the forest, but I haven't found any other than what just happened in my current run of the game. I'm currently doing a run without stopping at Impa's house, and while I recovered the maracas for Hestu and gained the slots that send him to the stables, I never went through the stables, instead going to the Divine Beasts and then getting the Master Sword at the Korok Forest with the bare minimum hearts.
