The Breath Of The Wild Sequel Was Born From A Desire “To Revisit That Hyrule”

Following the E3 Direct yesterday, Game Informer sat down to interview Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma. Naturally, conversation turned towards the biggest surprise of the Direct – the announcement of the development of a Breath of the Wild sequel. Aonuma mentioned that the sequel was a result of him wanting to revisit Breath of the Wild‘s Hyrule again:
“One of the reasons we wanted to create a continuation was because I wanted to revisit that Hyrule again and use that world again, while incorporating new gameplay and new story.”
We haven’t had a console Zelda game reuse the same game assets since Majora’s Mask, but it took place in a different land. Considering that this sequel to Breath of the Wild will take place in the same Hyrule, I imagine this game will have a lot of potential to improve upon some different aspects of it’s predecessor, and will hopefully have a chance to have a more fleshed out narrative.
Are you looking forward to re-exploring Breath of the Wild‘s Hyrule? Also, what kind of new game mechanics are you hoping for? We’re interested to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
