Celebration is as much looking forward as it is reflecting back. For the recent anniversary of Four Swords Adventures, I invite everyone to look ahead to ponder if a modern attempt at a Four Swords title should be created? I’d argue that we need it now more than ever, considering online multiplayer for Tri Force Heroes will no longer be an option in less than a month from the time of writing. On the other hand, multiplayer Zelda games have…

Many of us have likely put hundreds of hours into Tears of the Kingdom, some have definitely 100% it by now (or gotten as close as we’d like to that). I’ve spent about 255 hours myself exploring, and still have so much left to do. Exploring new areas in the game like the Depths and Sky has been cool, but finding out how places we were acquainted with from Breath of the Wild have changed was more thrilling to me….

We’re in an interesting era where Nintendo seems to be a bit more experimental in trying out new experiences with their IPs. From licensing out Zelda games a lot more often, to working with Universal Studios to make Super Nintendo World, as well as partnering with Illumination and now Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. to make The Super Mario Bros. Movie and a live action Zelda film respectively. There are probably some things that could still never happen, (e.g. I wouldn’t hold my…

Nintendo announced yesterday that, on April 8th, 2024, at 4 PM PDT, online services will shut down for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U line of systems. We knew the general timeframe for this suspension late last year, but the exact date and time is now confirmed. As for what this decision entails, “online play and other functionality that uses online communication” will be terminated. “This also includes online co-operative play, internet rankings, and data distribution,” and it applies to…

With The Game Awards happening tomorrow evening, here at Zelda Dungeon we’ve begun to ponder what catagories Tears of the Kingdom could rack up wins for? It is nominated for five catagories: Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, and Best Action/Adventure. With so many nominations, it’s hard to imagine the game not winning at least one or a few of those catagories. However, the question that’s been burning in my mind since…

Don’t judge a book by its cover.  Looking at the GameCube cover of The Wind Waker, it shows a cartoony Link sailing on an odd boat, with a wave swelling beneath it. The composition gives a sense of adventure, of excitement, and Link’s expression creates a feeling of cheerfulness. The actual game maintains those cartoony graphics and is full of saturated colors. Perhaps blinded by these appearances back in 2003, journalists and gamers alike decided that The Wind Waker “was…

I didn’t realize The Wind Waker was a controversial game back in 2003. Once I began to get online years later, fans of the series that were older than me told me that they actually hated The Wind Waker‘s art style, and when I researched further, I found that a lot of fans and journalists in their age range felt similarly. I was quite shocked at that revelation, because I had nothing but praise for the game and its art…

Since May 12th, I have been glued to my television screen playing Tears of the Kingdom practically non-stop. I am in complete awe of this game — it’s scope is beyond anything I ever dreamed of, as The Sky and The Depths add more new content than I thought they would. Even The Surface, with its caves, wells, and the ramifications of the falling Sky islands and the newly formed Chasms have transformed the landscape we are so familiar with,…

Now that Tears of the Kingdom has been out in the wild nearly two weeks, many of us have probably played the game quite a bit, at least enough to formulate an impression on the game’s approach to both gameplay and narrative. Our very own YouTube team, consisting of our friends Gooey, Corey, Nico, and McKenna, recently sat down to go in depth on their early thoughts on the game. I was actually quite surprised with how much they covered,…

We’re in a post-release Tears of the Kingdom world! While embarking on our new adventures through Hyrule, perhaps there is a bit of reflection in our minds on past games, both in terms of gameplay and story. In my playthrough of Tears of the Kingdom, I’ve been thinking a lot about the narratives of past Zelda games in particular (while trying to figure out how this newest entry of the series can tie into them). Zelda is rich with lore,…
