With The Game Awards happening tomorrow evening, here at Zelda Dungeon we’ve begun to ponder what catagories Tears of the Kingdom could rack up wins for? It is nominated for five catagories: Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, and Best Action/Adventure.

With so many nominations, it’s hard to imagine the game not winning at least one or a few of those catagories. However, the question that’s been burning in my mind since September has been if Tears of the Kingdom will win Game of the Year?

Before Baldur’s Gate 3 released in August, there was no future I could fathom where Tears of the Kingdom didn’t win Game of the Year. Now it’s not as clear cut, for a few reasons: the Baldur’s Gate series escaped its niche roots to gain wide mainstream success; following that momentum, Baldur’s Gate 3 snagged Game of the Year at The Golden Joystick Awards, proving it could also take the big win at The Game Awards; meanwhile, the Zelda community is split between praise and backlash on Tears of the Kingdom, this lack of solidarity seems to be negatively impacting its chances to perform well in these events. Thus, we have this scenario where the potential outcome has become quite murky!

Could Tears of the Kingdom still pull out a Game of the Year win? What other catagories could it walk away with? Let us know in the comments below!
