The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) hosted the 20th BAFTA Game Awards ceremony on Thursday, April 11th, 2024. BAFTA hosts the annual event to recognize achievement and excellence in the art of video games. A total of eighteen awards were presented at this year’s BAFTA Game Awards, showcasing excellence in Narrative, Game Design, Animation, Audio Achievement, and more.

Nintendo took the Technical Achievement Award for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom home from the event, which can be viewed on YouTube. The award’s other contenders included Alan Wake 2, Final Fantasy XVI, Horizon Call of the Mountain, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Starfield.

Zelda Dungeon previously reported that Tears of the Kingdom was in contention for a total of six awards: Best Game, Game Design, Audio Achievement, Music, Technical Achievement, and EE Players’ Choice (an award chosen by the public). The last time Nintendo won a BAFTA Game Award with Zelda was in 2018, when Breath of the Wild received the award for Game Innovation.

Tears of the Kingdom’s Technical Achievement Award wasn’t the only one Nintendo won this year. Super Mario Bros. Wonder was received BAFTAs for Multiplayer and Family.

What do you think about Tears of the Kingdom’s BAFTA for Technical Achievement? Should it have won awards for its other nominations? Be sure to give us your thoughts down in the comments.
