Link may be a courageous hero with an unmatched ability to solve unnecessarily complicated temple puzzles, but he would surely be at a lost without the multifarious tools he stores in his pouches (or whatever other hammerspace location he’s hiding).  It’s well established that the unique item discovered in each dungeon is needed to make your way to the boss and the reward beyond, hence the usual excitement surrounding said discover.  Outside of the dungeons, these objects enable greater exploration within game, pushing the player’s expectations and strategies for gameplay one level further; they shape the world we experience.

Were you ever playing Uncharted and thought Nathan Drake could benefit from a Hookshot? Did you wish you had Din’s Fire when playing Resident Evil? Or perhaps you were playing Metal Gear Solid and imagined yourself merging into a wall to sneak past some guards? Gamer-Teacher RedHeadPeak has been asking himself the question: Which games would benefit from a Zelda Weapon? That’s just one of many thoughts that he has been sharing over on his blog.

Of the massive amount of weapons, items, and companions found throughout the Legend of Zelda series, the very first one is a sword given to Link by an old man in a cave. The player has no idea the treasure trove of weapons awaiting him on his journey. But what if the old man had dumped every item onto Link, first thing? Well, the design team at Paint’d Fox Creations perfectly crafted that scenario on a comical and unique t-shirt…

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is only two days away, and the hype is strong with this one. Perhaps the most beloved multiplayer game for Nintendo fans, Super Smash Bros. asks players to break fighting game conventions and instead of whittling away at HP, to knock their opponents off of a given stage. Here at ZI, we’ve had a good amount of time to play through the game’s plethora of modes and challenges, and let me tell you, Zelda fans will not be disappointed.

Head inside to learn more!

We’ve just uploaded footage to our YouTube channel showing exactly how all the Zelda items in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U work, and it’s certainly amazing; they look and feel way better than they did on the 3DS, and it’s great to finally see exactly how they’ll shape up on the Wii U version of the game.

The list of items includes old classics like the Heart Container and the Bunny Hood, as well as tons of new ones, like the Beetle, Fairy Bottle, and the famous Cuccoo…

One thing that we’ve learned from the Smash Bros. for Wii U 50-Fact Extravaganza is that the frequency of item appearance will be changeable in the new Smash game.

This was a very commonly used feature in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Brawl, and even on the Nintendo 64 version of the game. It wasn’t possible in the 3DS version of the game, for reasons completely unknown; I’m not usually one to complain, but I don’t understand why this was omitted, and I doubt it had anything to do with technical shortcomings…

For so long, we as Zelda fans have expected certain staples of the series to show up in each new installment. Some of the more notable staples are certain items. The boomerang, the bow and arrows, bombs, and of course the main weapon, the sword. But is it time for new items to become a mainstay? Should there be some brand new weapons that are cool enough to stick around for over 25 years like these classic items? Join the…

Rings make for handy magic items: they’re small, lightweight and are easy to carry in addition to your other magical gear. Finding magic rings in the Zelda games is always useful to either continue in the game, make Link tough enough to more easily survive the later dungeons or even give him a variety of bonuses. But they have only appeared in 2D games, with the last time being The Minish Cap. Perhaps it is time for them to make…

The official website for Super Smash Bros. has been updated to give details on general items, Pokémon, and assist trophies in the newest entries. There’s a little new and old in every category, but we are going to take a look at everything that has been detailed on the website. For players who just enjoy Smash as a casual experience with friends, the items look promising as far as creating a fun and fair experience. If you lean more on the competitive side however, you may or may not see these items depending on how you prefer to play. Either way, there are definitely some new tactics and strategies…

In addition to the various main weapons the characters can pick from, Link, at the very least, will have access to much of his usual arsenal on the field. During tonight’s Hyrule Warriors direct, they showed off the bow, bombs, hookshot and the boomerang. Much like a main series Zelda title, these tools will have uses outside of standard combat; Bombs will knock down walls, the boomerang will cut things at a range, and the hookshot can pull you towards things. They will even have boss-relevant uses when bosses appear, meaning the game will not be abandoning…
