Zelda fans know him as the voice of the Rito champion Revali, yet Sean Chiplock has a far more vast and ever-growing list of credits in video games, television series, and movies. Although the Revali character is an extreme embodiment of conceit and bravado, Chiplock is far from those traits, humbly and honestly speaking to the complexities of a career that is fundamentally tremulous.

In this new interview — conducted by content creator KIWI TALKZ — Chiplock discusses the downsides and delights of the voice acting industry, such as the exhausting audition process and rejection in the industry as a whole. For aspiring voice actors, or any aspiring artists in general who are looking at a life of competition, Chiplock’s determination is inspiring. In particular, he talks of a “trust that there will be future opportunities,” one that is difficult to have faith in after such choruses of negative responses. Chiplock also talks about his process for discovering voices, how they naturally change and shift, and how they are informed by the character traits at hand, in particular “motive, personality,” and “intent.”

As far as Tears of the Kingdom hints, Chiplock only broaches his relationship with Nintendo by discussing Breath of the Wild, Age of Calamity, and the downloadable content for each. When asked if he plans to play Tears of the Kingdom, Chiplock voices his excitement for its release and his eagerness to see what happens “in case any of [his] characters happen to come back.” This response in particular has already caused rumors and speculation to ensue, though Chiplock has denounced efforts to draw hard conclusions from such “innocuous responses.” Chiplock has further clarified his response as an “I can neither confirm nor deny” situation.

In addition to Revali, Chiplock also provided the voices for Teba and the Great Deku Tree in Breath of the Wild and Age of Calamity.
