Daily Debate: Why Do Link And Zelda Share A Telepathic Connection?
Posted on January 02 2020 by Alexandria Weber
Being the Hero of Hyrule, Link’s courageous acts for the kingdom usually feature an encounter with Princess Zelda. As there are only two Zelda games where the princess does not make a physical appearance, the pair seem to be tied by fate.
Although Link and Zelda reincarnate together in the presence of evil forces in most titles, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Breath of the Wild connect them in a unique way. For example, in Ocarina of Time, Princess Zelda teaches Link the “Song of Time” telepathically. Additionally, A Link to the Past shows Link being woken up by Zelda’s pleading call to wrest her from the castle walls that have become her prison. Similarly, Breath of the Wild‘s Link hears a mysterious voice from atop the first Sheikah Tower on the Great Plateau, later revealed to be Princess Zelda herself.
So, it comes into question why the bond between Link and Princess Zelda exists. Could it be a result of sharing pieces of the Triforce, or could it be a side effect of the curse that Demise laid upon the original pair in Skyward Sword? Perhaps it’s all just a coincidence, or there might even be some other reason behind it all. I personally think it has something to do with their deep relationship in Skyward Sword, but that remains to be seen.
What do you think? How and why is it that Link can hear Zelda telepathically? Let us now in the comments below!
