Daily Debate: Do You Want More Complex Combat in Future Zelda Games?

Twilight Princess isn’t my all-time-favorite Zelda game, but it is near the top of my list. Apart from the cinematic dungeon design and sheer, epic mood of this game, one of my favorite additions was the Hidden Skills you learn from the Hero’s Shade. Most of the time, with the exception of Breath of the Wild, Link’s sword combat is tied to just a few signature moves that are pretty basic and easy to pull off in each game. So I absolutely loved and welcomed the Hidden Skills that were taught by none other than the Hero of Time himself!
Link is already awesome, but seeing him pull off some serious warrior-worthy moves made me feel like an actual force to be reckoned with! It was so fun to pull off Mortal Draws and Helm Splitters in the nick of time against hordes of Lizalfos (which are actually pretty frightening in this game) and, of course, Ganondorf in the end. But Twilight Princess isn’t the only game to introduce new types of sword play.
The Minish Cap also has some of my favorite whimsical sword techniques to learn throughout the adventure too. Besides just pushing “B” to swing your sword, these little additions just add to the whole “hero” persona in my book, and I love that feeling! I would definitely love to see more complex combat like this in the future—maybe something reminiscent of the moves pulled off in Age of Calamity could be added? Now that would be cool.
What about you? Would you like more complex combat in the future of the series? Let me know in the comments!
