Editor’s Note: This article has been edited to better reflect Aonuma’s statement.

Throughout the exciting Legend of Zelda-centric segment of Nintendo’s E3 2021 Direct, series producer Eiji Aonuma shed some light on several projects, including Breath of the Wild 2 and a Zelda-themed Game & Watch system. That said, he also tempered expectations by confirming that no additional campaigns, in relation to the Zelda series’ 35th anniversary, are planned for any un-announced Zelda games on the Switch at this time:

“This year, the original Legend of Zelda game reaches its 35th anniversary. While we don’t have any campaigns for any other Nintendo Switch games planned, we’ve been working on this Game & Watch system as a special item to help mark the occasion and reflect fondly on the earliest days of The Legend of Zelda.”

Although this is certainly disappointing for folks — like myself — who were hoping to see Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker brought to Nintendo’s latest console, I do appreciate Aonuma’s clarity. And given what content we did see today, it’s still a wonderful time to be a Zelda fan.

In any case, are you surprised by this confirmation? Do you still expect to see these aforementioned games re-released at some point? Let us know in the comments below.
