US: Tears of the Kingdom Was the Top-Selling Game in May, Switch the Top-Selling Console

According to Mat Piscatella, executive director and video game industry analyst at Circana, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the best-selling game last month. In fact, the numbers in May were so strong, Tears of the Kingdom became the second-best-selling game of 2023. These sales reports are even more impressive when noting that Nintendo releases only physical sales, meaning that physical sales alone have outperformed all sales including digital for other games.
However, it wasn’t just software that topped the charts for the Japanese gaming company. The Nintendo Switch family of consoles was also the top-selling hardware in the United States for the month of May. The Switch console sales were the second-highest ever for the month of May, only eclipsed by the May 2020 numbers, which of course were significantly boosted due to the pandemic.
