The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom released May 12 after 6 long years of waiting; to celebrate the release of the much-anticipated game, musician Lucas Cooper released his brand new album of video game cover music, Zelda—After The Storm. The album is Cooper’s second major Zelda-focused release, and you can listen to the entire album here. Whether you’re driving in the car (wishing you were playing Tears of the Kingdom) or exploring the vast regions of the game and longing for…

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been out for a couple weeks now, and players are discovering many of the game’s surprises. But there’s at least one unforeseen change that has left some players a little frustrated. The Wolf Link amiibo no longer grants players access to the legendary canine companion. Instead, it merely offers a collection of meat, which we can assume was “hunted” by our wolf friend…I think. True, the nature of gameplay in Tears of the…

As part of the festivities surrounding COMICON Naples 2023, three special aediculas have been created honoring Princess Zelda. These small shrines were created by the street artists “Zeal Off” and “They Live,” drawing on both a modern cultural tradition of street art and the classical architecture and religious tradition of aediculas, dating back to ancient Rome. The Princess Zelda aediculas will be on display from April 28th to May 1st in the Historical Center districts and in Fuorigrotta, Rione Sanità….

Fans who got their start playing the original Zelda games on the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Game Boy have a special place in their hearts for retro graphics, even as games advance at rapid speeds. As such, there’s been a growing trend of re-imagining the upcoming Tears of the Kingdom with the graphics of yesterday’s era. In this recent video,  New Age Retro Hippie transforms key moments from the latest Tears of the Kingdom trailer into the classic Game Boy aesthetic. Fans…

The Zelda Dungeon YouTube crew are back again; this time, Gooey, Nico, and Corey are reading and reacting messages from the community in a good-old-fashioned mailbag episode! Many of the questions focus on the new weapons and abilities featured in the latest Tears of the Kingdom gameplay footage. The crew also discusses what new abilities or runes they hope Link will have, such as shrinking and enlarging, multiplying items, and more. Another fun discussion question centers on the three-headed dragon, which…

While so much of PAX East was about games, developers, networking, and just having fun, the moment I found most moving was an impromptu conversation I had with Dr. Anthony M. Bean, author of The Psychology of The Legend of Zelda, The Psychology of Final Fantasy, and Working with Video Gamers and Games in Therapy: A Clinician’s Guide. I was wandering through the shopping section of PAX East, and I came across a booth run by Geek Therapeutics. I stopped because the philosophy book…

Today I had the privilege of stopping by the PAX EAST 2023 booth for Mooneye Studios, where I played the demo of Shumi Come Home, a game heavily inspired by Zelda games like The Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild. I also had the opportunity to interview the game’s creator and developer, Noah Lone, who is known as “SomeHumbleOnion” within the industry. Shumi Come Home is set in a post-human world in which players control a humanoid mushroom named Shumi who is lost…

While Zelda news was unfortunately slim at PAX East this year, there were a few bright spots for fans of the franchise. From a speedrun of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening by Game’s Done Quick to a panel talk on the Zelda timeline, there was just enough to keep fans interested while at the convention. One personal highlight was my stop at the Songbird Ocarina booth. The owner of the company has been making ocarinas for over 30 years and the…
