To the surprise of many, Netflix was reported last week to be working on a live action Legend of Zelda series. Fans have already begun sharing their thoughts on the news, offering various perspectives on what a live action Zelda show should or should not be. YouTube show The Bit Block (managed by WiiFolderJosh) recently sat down to discuss the prospects of the Netflix series. The hosts talk about what they would like to see in a live action Zelda adaptaion, including possible plotlines, tone, and character design.

Hosts Josh Thomas and Dan Goslin share some interesting ideas on what the live action Zelda series could look like. They first question the general nature of the show’s plot and characters. While Netflix has already been reported to be making the show a family friendly version of Game of Thrones, The Bit Block speculates that the series could present a darker, more dramatic take on the Zelda universe. They even discuss the possibility that the show could focus on the exploits of Ganondorf, which could prove interesting.

The discussion also touches on the topic of different Zelda races appearing in the series, such as Zoras or Gorons. Goslin states that he would like to see these creatures depicted in a style similar to the nightmarish monsters seen in Guillermo Del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth. In a more light-hearted option, Thomas shares that he would rather see the races of Zelda a la Jim Henson’s puppets in Labyrinth. Both possibilities could be interesting, but I see the use make-up to be much more likely.

The final topic the hosts consider is how the series will continue beyond a single season. Thomas expresses his excitement over the possibility that each season will follow the plot of a different game in the Zelda series, making way for different stories and tones as the series continues. Such a thing is probably a long way off, but I would love to see an stylized Wind Waker series.

What do you think of their suggestions? What do you think would make a great live action Zelda series? Let us know!
