The idea of usingThe Legend of Zelda for a TV show or film has been debated by many as being the best and worst thing that could happen to the franchise. An animated 13-episode Zelda television series aired back in 1989, but that didn’t really hit home with the fans. Well, it appears that Netflix is wanting to take a stab at making the idea work.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Netflix is teaming up with Nintendo to make a live action Zelda series, described as being a more “family friendly” version of “Game of Thrones.” According to the blog post by Ben Fritz, the idea is still in its early stages and no comments are being made on the subject by either Nintendo or Netflix.

At this time, there is no confirmation on the validity of these claims, and this is still a rumor, which should be handled as such. But my past experience has found that when companies avoid questions about a project, there is something that they don’t want known but don’t want to lie to their followers.

What do you think of this idea? Are you excited to see a company as big as Netflix take on this type of project? Do you think the Zelda series needs to remain on Nintendo consoles? Let us know in the comments below.

UPDATE: Whether or not the rumors of this television series are true does not seem to matter to the creators of a change.org petition to kill the show before it is even announced. At the time of this writing, the petition has enlisted six of 100 supporters.
