Today’s Zelda Fanart Spotlight is on deviantart member, Woodland-Mel aka Melora the owner of the Zelda site, History of Hyrule. To be more specific about which fanart of hers we’re going to be looking at it’s her work Dark World: Catfish. In this fanart it shows one of the memorable parts of the Zelda game, A Link to the Past. This part is when Link is in the Dark World at the river located at the base of the east…

Youtube user, SwarfieldMusic, has made a cover of some of the music that plays in A Link to the Past. A couple of his friends helped him with this and they used an assortment of different instruments to make the music sound the way it does in the cover. I think the that their choice of instruments was a good one cause the cover sounds, in my opinion, pretty darn awesome! Please take the jump to hear the awesome cover…

An article over at Industry Gamers talks about how Zelda has influenced many people in the video game industry and that if it wasn’t for Shigeru Miyamoto, many of these people would’ve never had the inspiration to follow their own dreams. Here is an excerpt of that article talking about it. Like many children, the talented video game designer enjoyed wandering through hillsides and forests, where his obsession with discovery led him to a mysterious cave. Armed with a lantern,…

The Legend of Zelda, like many fantasy games before it, had a great many influences. Game developers often draw their inspiration from many different sources, like writers and artists do. Often inspiration can be pulled from the works of others or from similar real-world examples. Over the years the simple and straightforward world of Zelda has been expanded upon in so many ways beyond the standard fantasy genre into a new brand with a rich mythology of its own. The…

So much has changed since the beginning of Zelda. A little elf boy running around and trying to save a princess is but one of the many memories people have from the 80s. The Legend of Zelda, released in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, marked the start of one of the biggest adventure game series of all time. Everything about the original Legend of Zelda defines classic. The music, the sound effects, the story and the adventure all made…

The Legend of Zelda series has, for most of its lifespan, been viewed as a franchise with a quality story. Nowadays, we have rich lore to draw from, to formulate complex theories about multiple timelines and Hyrules, multiple versions of the main characters and side characters. But things weren’t always like that. The original Legend of Zelda was straightforward. The story was simply a quest from point A to point B, and the gamer was left to fill in the…

From the very beginning, Ganon has been the main antagonist of the Zelda series appearing in most titles. For a long time, he was the rarely seen enemy to Hyrule and kidnapper of maidens. Yet it was not until 1998 when Ocarina of Time was released that fans learned of his true origin. It is well known among fans that Ocarina of Time had an enormous impact upon the series as a whole. More than bringing Zelda into 3D, the…

Game Informer recently posted up a special edition podcast titled The Great Zelda Debate, where they argued which Zelda title is the best.  While they could not agree upon one game as the best of the series, most of the staff seemed to agree that Spirit Tracks is one of the worst entries in the series, excluding the CDi games.  The four games that ranked highest upon the Game Informer staff (in no particular order) The Legend of Zelda, A…

A fundamental aspect of the Zelda series starting with the very first game in 1986 was the acquisition and use of various items and weapons to help Link in his quest to defeat Ganon, rescue the princess, and save Hyrule. Instead of beginning the first game with a sword in hand, Link begins with absolutely nothing. He acquires his sword from a mysterious old man in a nearby cave. This shows players that discovering secrets and obtaining items from them…

A dedicated Zelda fan, RwanLink, has taken the time to create this fantastic 3D Zelda animation. Overall, this impresses me a lot; the effort put into it definitely shows despite a few minor mistakes. It is named “Past and Present” and appears to be the first part of an upcoming story following none other than Link. The graphics are almost flawless, and the plot does a good job of maintaining an audience. There was clearly a lot of time and…
