One of the most tantalizingly possible features for a future Zelda title is multiplayer. Ever since the admittedly underwhelming Four Swords and Four Swords: Adventure showed fans that there is a way to experience Zelda with your friends by your side, there has been a lingering idea that it could be brought back and improved, taking advantage of advancing in technology and present innovations in adventure games. From a Dark Souls-esque online system, to a true co-op adventure, there are many ideas that seem like they could work well in furthering the appeal of these games. When it comes to considering the necessity of such a feature, however, the conversation changes slightly. 

It is not at all common for Zelda to feature multiplayer, in fact, only Four Swords, Four Swords Adventures, The Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks involve anything even close to multiplayer. Hot off the heels of the Hyrule Warriors Direct, more information has been revealed regarding the Adventure Mode in Hyrule Warriors. In tonight’s Nintendo Direct, Hyrule Warriors will come with a co-op mode, as many fans expected, but this mode will act in a way that’s helpful to the players. Both players will be able to have their own screen with the aid of the Wii U GamePad. Nintendo has also explained that this is all due to the reduced screen resolution on the GamePad. This will definitely improve the multiplayer gameplay in Hyrule Warriors as players won’t have to deal with a distracting and hindering split screen. In a recent interview with Game Informer, Eiji Aonuma hinted at a possible multiplayer function in the next Zelda entry for the Wii U.
