Over the years Link has had plenty of companions, but most of them are fairies, imps, or even hats! Though he’s had interactions with characters from common-races (like carrying Princess Ruto around in Jabu-Jabu’s belly), Link has never had a full-length game companion that was either a Goron, Deku Scrub, Zora, or any alternate races extended from those. To have a small floating fairy companion makes sense for functionality, but would a more humanoid companion be additionally useful to Link…

When playing Majora’s Mask, we’ve all taken masks on and off as we please, wherever and whenever- as it’s what you’re supposed to do to complete objectives. But have we ever considered what the citizens of Clock Town, or what the population of Termina, have thought when they see a little Deku Scrub suddenly transform into a child in the blink of an eye? Or maybe Darmani -Beloved Warrior and Goron Hero-, transforming into Mikau -Zora guitarist of the Indigo-Go’s-,…

Majora’s Mask is a mysterious Zelda title full of many different themes and identities. The land of Termina was so surreal compared to Hyrule that it just lent itself to many interpretations and ideals. Perhaps one of the biggest themes in the recently-remade title is loneliness…

For the past couple of weeks, we’ve learned about numerous ways in which Majora’s Mask 3D will differ from its original version on the Nintendo 64. Many of these changes have been applauded by the fanbase, and rightfully so – Nintendo is taking this opportunity to fix little issues that players have had with the game for years. While only a few of these changes could be called major, they are all being made with the belief such alterations will strengthen the experience.

Yet some of these changes do far more than that – a handful of them offer us some unique insight into the minds behind the

Zelda series, and how those minds have themselves changed in the past fifteen years. We can examine these changes to Majora’s Mask and infer the motivations behind them to learn how perspectives may have shifted and opinions varied amongst the developers as time has passed. Over the next few days, we will focus specifically on how the changes to certain magical abilities found in Majora’s Mask reveal a fundamental shift in mindset concerning the use and purpose of magic power in the Zelda universe.

Without further ado, let’s begin today’s analysis.

From new swimming controls to fully revamped bossesMajora’s Mask 3D has received its fair share of improvements from the original Nintendo 64 release. GameXplain recently released a short, one minute video showing off yet another, although minor, difference that can be found in the enhanced remake: Idle animations. Specifically for the Deku Scrub, Goron and Zora transformations…

Masks are a key motif in Majora’s Mask, but what is the meaning beneath — or rather within — the masks Link wears? This is the second article in a series exploring the cultural roots of Majora’s Mask, focusing on the nature of the masks and their function in the game.

Hi everyone! Welcome back to our Weekly Feature: Zelda Fan of the Week. For those who don’t know, we take a fan (or a group of them) each week and we post their works. These could be comics, art, cosplay, music or anything related to The Legend of Zelda. For this opportunity we have two Graphic Design students that had a very interesting assignment in one of their classes: Make a puzzle with only cardboard…

Early this morning, we got a hold of a new trailer for Lana, courtesy of the Japanese official website for Hyrule Warriors, and this afternoon Nintendo was kind enough to share the English version of said video. Like Zelda and Impa, Lana has access to a secondary weapon, the Spear, which we only caught a glimpse of in recent Famitsu scans. For a weapon which appears to be very plain, the Spear appears to have as much versatility as the Magic Rod, if not more with abilities ranging from physical strikes, to icy attacks, to summoning moves. This weapon also does well to reassure…

Before I begin, it’s probably best that I explain the appearance of myself and the existence of this panel in brief detail. My name is Jordan Mizzi, a new writer from Victoria, Australia. I’ve wanted to do analysis articles for years now, so I’m absolutely ecstatic for the opportunity to work on my favorite video game series here at Zelda Dungeon. So, I bring to all of you: Deku Notes, where I comment on the interacting elements across the entire…
