“As the bright Hylian Sun heats the dancing sands of the valley, you must travel across the desert to fulfill your destiny. A gust of wind may push you back, but your courage will push you forward.” This beautiful call to adventure is the latest invitation to dream from Skull Kid Nico and reads as the caption below his lo-fi remix of “Gerudo Valley” from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

When asked about his inspiration, he explained that the track was inspired by his experience of learning to “be alone, but not being afraid.” Link’s journey through the Gerudo Desert comes at a crucial moment in Ocarina of Time, as the hero races to gather the Sages and save Hyrule; his courage in the Haunted Wasteland is an inspiration to many. This piece is Skull Kid Nico’s seventh featuring music from the Zelda universe and has left some (including me!) wondering when a full album will be released.

His other remixes feature songs and themes including “Astral Observatory” from Majora’s Mask, “Ballad of the Wind Fish” from Link’s Awakening, and “Tarrey Town,” “Lost Woods,” and “Kass’s Theme” from Breath of the Wild. One of my personal favorites is his mix of “Zora’s Domain” from Ocarina of Time andĀ Breath of the Wild, weaving in lines from the Champion Mipha.
