Remember back in the day when we had to just push the A button to use our sword in Zelda? Seems like it was just yesterday and now we can actually really get into our swordplay and move with the game! What better way to make that change even better than to have someone who uses a sword on a regular basis. Claire Bennett, a professional fencer, was hired by Nintendo to do a photo shoot, a bit of fencing, to show off her swordplay and even teach some people how to fence at the Nintendo Skyward Sword Launch Party.

The event was held in a victorian building in South Kensington with decorations of fairy lights and greens plants and vines winding up the stairwells along with green lights to make it seem more mystical and forestlike. Take the jump to read more about the fencing adventures.

During the fencing demonstration, Claire taught some people techniques on how to actually do some swordplay themselves. After the event was over she even got a tweet from someone that said “Huge, huge thanks for showing me how to fence with a foil and live every worker’s dream by fighting my boss to the death.” That is obviously not to be taken literal but don’t we all wish to fight our bosses to the death sometimes? Needless to say, I think it sounds like they all had a great time watching Claire do some fencing and learning in the process.

Claire got sent home with quite a souvenir too. She got one of the Wii consoles that were set up at the event along with a gold wiimote. Being the professional that she is, she did have a hard time with the sword swinging motions wanting to do dramatic arms movements but later realized that smaller wrist movements would have done just as well. All in all, she said she had fun playing Skyward Sword as I believe we all do.

I know I would have been very intrigued to watch how she did her fencing and would have jumped in with both feet running to get the chance to learn how to do it myself! How about you guys? Would you have wanted to learn yourselves or would you just stand on the sidelines to watch and enjoy? Tell me in the comments!
