We reported a few days back about Game Informer giving Skyward Sword a perfect 10 out of 10, but today we have some more information. While we don’t have scans or a full transcript of the magazine, we do have some snippets from the review that we can report on. These come courtesy of a NeoGAF user who posted them in a Skyward Sword thread. Make the jump to read about the new goodies.

  • “This is the first game i’ve played that delivers on the promise sparked by that initial Wii remote showing.”
  • The last two boss encounters are the most difficult fights in any Zelda
  • The biggest surprise is the story. He mentions that previous games have been fairly predictable, but this is a big step up for the franchise.
  • He mentions that some gamers might not like the amount of time that it takes to fly from island to island. The review does say that it’s faster than traveling in Wind Waker.
  • “The vast, open Hyrule Field is replaced by tinier, more disconnected, and more puzzle-centric ground areas leading up to dungeons.”
  • His first playthrough took him over 40 hours
  • The physical size of the world is smaller than Twilight Princess
  • You’ll occasionally have backtrack through areas while during fetch questions. He says that this isn’t too big of a deal since they change the environments up enough to still make things interesting.
  • “From a gameplay and story standpoint, this is the biggest shift the series has ever seen…”

All in all, there isn’t too much new here. It’s nice to know that the story is one of the biggest surprises. I think most would agree that modern video games seem to require a very engaging and cinematic story. While we’ve seen this to a small extent in past Zelda games, it’s nothing compared to the heavily story driven adventure games of this generation. That being said there is a balance between story and gameplay and it’s looking like Skyward Sword is nailing that right on the spot.

Only 10 more days until Skyward Sword ships to Zelda fans in Europe. The game is set for release on November 19th in Europe, November 20th in North America, November 23rd in Japan, and November 24th in Australia.
