Famitsu, one of Japan’s most respected and longest running video game magazines, just reviewed Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The weekly edition of the magazine rates a handful of games on a ten point scale, with each of four reviewers awarding up to ten points for a possible total of 40. In what is the very first review of the game, Famitsu awarded Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity a 36/40, a very strong score. No reviewer gave the game less than 9/10.

For context, Famitsu reviewed eight other major PlayStation 4 and Switch games this week, with the scores of other games averaging 29/40. This bodes well for the upcoming Hyrule Warriors title, which holds enormous expectations for Zelda fans after the success of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

While there is some debate about whether Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will fall within canon, there is little doubt that the game is a significant improvement upon Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition. A demo released last month by Nintendo and Koei Tecmo was well received by fans and looks to be heavily inspired by, if not fully integrated into, the narrative universe of the 2017 Game of the Year Breath of the Wild.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is set to release Friday, November 20.
