As spring begins to give way to summer, the blossoms turn to leaves, the temperatures get warmer, and I continue to hope that the waves of pollen swamping my region will soon subside. I find myself taking more time to walk around my backyard and take in the sounds and sights of nature. I love seeing the wind tousle the treetops and the brightness of the local greenery. Despite being an avid fan of cozy dark winter nights, I love how the continually extending daylight gives me more time to appreciate that late afternoon haze. Ah — perfect for contemplation!

This atmosphere reminds me of some of my favorite places in Zelda to simply vibe. Breath of the Wild is naturally a treasure trove of spots primed for this. My favorite Breath of the Wild nature vibes include wandering in Akkala among the bright autumnal foliage, fishing in Lurelin Village while listening to the waves, and standing near the clouds on Hebra Peak as the wind whistles around my ears.

Skyward Sword’s Skyview Spring, Twilight Princess’ Faron Woods and Lake Hylia, pretty much anywhere on The Wind Waker’s Great Sea, Ocarina of Time’s Forest Temple, and A Link to the Past’s Lost Woods (despite the thieves and fake swords) all fill me with a meditative glee. In these settings, you can enjoy the moment examining each log, mushroom, or wave without thinking about the pressures of daily life or your current quest to save the world. These locations make me feel not only immersed in each respective game, but immersed in their natural environments as well.

I’d love to hear what you love most about your favorite nature locations in the Zelda series. What makes for a good place for Link to take a nice cleansing walk and get away from it all? What’s your ideal combination of soundscape, music, and natural setting for some meditative thoughts as you take a break within a Zelda playthrough? Let us know down below!
